4 out of 5 stars Great Buy.... but heavy   November 2, 2008
I used to have an Allen rack and had to give it away when I sold the SUV, I can say the Softride is amazing but heavy, I don't like the fact that you have to insert the two bars into the square base in order to carry the bikes, however once is there you can go anywhere, fantastic retractable system allowing you to take anything out from the back...

4 out of 5 stars Good Bike Rack   November 1, 2008
This is the first bike rack I've purchased and so far I'm very pleased with it. Its easy to setup, easy to put the bikes on and easy to take down. Its well made, very sturdy and I love the locking pin on it to prevent theft. We load four bikes on it when we go and I'm amazed how steady they stay on the highway or local around town. Very pleased with the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars softride bike rack   October 7, 2008
We just used this for the first time this past weekend. We had one tri bike and three road bikes. It was very easy to load the bikes. Once on they were very stable with no rocking during the trip. We used the tilt feature several times and it was also very easy. The only thing was that it is bit heavy to push back up. But after a couple of times we figured out a system and had no problems. I would highly recommend this item.

3 out of 5 stars Good rack, some minor issues   September 18, 2008

The rack itself is nice and solid, easy to assemble and disassemble. Our bikes rode very securely over a long trip which included some rough roads. I love the ease with which the rack can be lowered, with the bikes on, to access the back of our van.

I have two complaints. First, the rubber straps that are used to secure the bikes are too soft. They stretch too much, and we have had two break already (after one week-long trip). Second, there is no easy way to secure the bikes to the rack. I believe there is optional equipment available to help with this, but I think it relies on the yellow plastic loops on the end of the rack, which would be easy to break.

Finally, know that you will need to find a way to secure the front wheels so that they won't flop around. I used bungies to strap the wheel to the frame.

4 out of 5 stars great bike rack   July 17, 2008
There was not a lot of assembly required with this rack, but the instructions were not easy to follow. Once I got it right (after taking apart and reassembling a couple of times) it worked great! It's a little heavy, but that probably adds to it's sturdiness. It's faily easy to drop it down when loaded and push it back in to position. The key lock is a little tricky to master, but once you do, it's no problem securing. The key is on a spring, so you have to turn it and pull at the same time. Overall I am very pleased with this rack.
